“We are proud to present again, for the second time, this great Industrial and Noise project from Poland.” This begins quite glitchy but soon huge drone/pads appear to indicate how much Noise is about ‘looks’ rather than ‘depth’. Or rather about “depth” rather than “content” or lack of content. Once a Goth could only use second-hand clothes and dog collars, now boutiques sport tailor made apparel for the weekend emo or goth, who is probably unaware of the derivative “Gothic” and its in terms of Victorian pseudo copy facades masking modernity’s finely calculated structures of iron, and absolutely nothing like the rule of thumb magnificence of the medieval stone masons. (apply this metaphorically to this music..) Victorian gothic has its charms, St Pancras is magnificent, if over the top in many ways, as is Highgate cemetery a wonderful necropolis to explore, but the boys and girls in black in shopping arcades, or Malls in the U.S. just doesn’t cut the mustard, whatever that means. Such criticism sounds pompous and elitist, after all its only a fashion, not to be taken seriously, or if it is then they should maybe visit Chartres – “the real thing”, and not some ‘joke-shop’ gothic copy of a copy of a copy… but maybe the network manager who seemed to have it in for me where I worked once – who was a goth- has colored my views - but not black- please. Those original cathedrals were brightly painted – so how about some lively Noise? (*NOTE: this review was written by: Jliat).

BRANDKOMMANDO is a musical project basically harsh noise conducted by a young experimentlist musician called Karol Wachowski, from Ostrow Mazowiecki but currently resides in Warsaw (Poland). Officially began in 2003 with their wanderings and since then has released 27 full length albums , plus a few EP's and a loose item in any compilattion. His style is clearly Noise , and may also be influenced by the Industrial old-school sounds, spoken words, speeches or  even Ambient in some fragments. The themes of his lyrics and the physical appearance of your disks (front cover, back cover, booklet , etc.) always refers always to the ultra-left totalitarianisms like Stalinism, Maoism and Polpotism. BRANDKOMMANDO or Karol (better) is also characterized by being very jealous of their privacy, discretion and always flee the promotion, the crowd and the general public . He has worked with various underground labels as "Mask of the Slave", "Skull Line", "Beast of Prey " or Russian prestigious noise label "Sickcore records". I personally believe that its wide and long preview this "Three strikes and you are out " is one of his best albums, his best inspiration. But because Karol has accustomed us to a good level of compositional quality remains a good album of course . This is a 2011 album from this prolific Polish artist including eight tracks mixing power-electronics with processed vocals and tape-voices around strikes and police violences. Housed in a six panel digifile in a limited edition of 300 copies.

One of the less unknown Brandkommando's works is this single from 2012 made by the small french noise label "Corrosive Art Records". I suppose the little promotion and the fact we it deal about only one track, gave a result a few popularity into the noise / industrial scene. But sincerely I profite this opportunity to give the advice to listen to this track beacause is really good. Karol (aka Brandkommando) decided this time to denounce the japanese invasion over asian continent and specially its action in China. Japanese Empire in the Second Warr did the same politics that Nazi Germany with the chinese poulation, with horrible examples such as: death camps, genetical experiments, genocide, massive tortures, etc. In occident too much people often forget this historic period, but Brandkommando has wanted to make a kind of homage to chinese victims. Strictly musical, this time there are no voices, no spoken words neither speeches. Nothing can to remind the human or his actions, only artificial and mechanical noises and sounds are here. Is a little bit bizarre to see this extremly small format, only 5 minutes, but I decided to get it few time ago and now I have decided to share with everybody. Perhaps one day a label decide to add in a whole album.

"Mental Excitement Records" is an interesting russian net-label which work with electronic styles like ambient, drone, glitch, IDM, breakcore, industrial, noise, etc. There is a large catalogue avaible totally free in different net-platforms: bandcamp, archive-org, lastfm, etc. I recommended you to see few minutes. It seems this small label coordinated the work and promotion for this mini release made by Brandkommando and Cracked Core, both artists together. The style is similar like other releases but here maybe there is more accent on social issues, politics, etc. You can to get it in different sites here below.

Original and different are the 2 words which comes to my mind  when I am listening to this release. Maybe this one is the recording less known of the polish artist, but is sure it´s not the worst at all. In fact it was a kind of EP made with an awesome format, similar to a mini DVD box. Inside, 2 pages with some information and 15 minutes of an opressive and apocalyptic noise (typical Brandkommando style) but this time with some dark ambient influences and of course few spoken words. It seem like If the general atmosphere be more blackened than other albums.

Behind the martial sounding name fire command hides a Polish project, which is very active for some time and here presents "Death Camp II" a dark piece of music. Dark one hand due to the thoughtful theme, on the other hand musically, wherein there but the harsh Share Alike holds a dominant share. "Death Camp II" is of extremely restless nature and, occasionally swept by violent bays. But is by no means a stupid noise before work, but it is structured to the point, what can appear quite catchy the whole picture. Whether one feels the occasional noise bursts as disturbing, is a matter of taste. The fact is, however, that the gloomy distorted speech inspirations for better incorporate more into the picture. Already the opener can score with a lot of atmosphere alone, this good level is also maintained over the remainder of the playing time and thus it is not a problem, that monster to internalize the piece. "Death Camp II" lives of a peculiar atmosphere, occasionally seeming rhythmic timing and has occasional forays into the good old days of strong harsh Industrial, which can be especially to determine "Our best friends". Nevertheless, if one had somewhat scaled back the noise part, the result would certainly have been even betterThe musical structures undoubtedly have a good deal of charm and are likely to be basically for all electronic music lovers of interest. Moreover, one can certify that the musician is trying here to change what that succeeds quite well, but not belies that "Death Camp II" a disturbing character holds what is ultimately certainly justified on the substantive issue. Lately I've noticed the title Brandkommando appearing more and more often here and there. This power electronics unit from neighboring Poland releases at least several albums every year in various labels that chooses their production very carefully. This could mean that the project moves forward and improves. The CDr I'm reviewing was released via a label already defunct, in the end of 2009. Packed in A5 envelope with the folded cover and the disc attached to it. Nice, restrained design. All in all - 50 minutes of sound in this release. I'm not too well acknowledged with the creations of this project, but from what I can remember, I wasn't too excited about it. This album is an ambivalent one. There are tracks that I like, but there are such that I'd better skip. The theme of the album - Christianity's relation to pedophilia through prism of Brandkommando. Not a new theme, but when you have in mind that Poland is the country with the highest percent of people who follows Christianity and this project is from this country, the report straight from the center of happenings gets you curious. Album starts with a weak track In Vitro - digital flanger effect and pulsating voices, silent buzzing somewhere in the background and that's it. Seven and a half minutes of weird flotation. Radio Maryja is more interesting - low rumble that goes from left to right and back and voice under slightly better sounding flanger effect. And the album goes in similar manner till the very end - calm, trying to create darker or more twisted atmosphere but not drawing your attention. Maybe my personal requirements for albums, exploring such themes are too high and Brandkommando, following the well-troden path of dark electronics + calm effected voice does not convince me. Yes, some of the tracks are rather good ones as for example Mea Culpa or Biskup Pedofil, but all in all the album is rather dull. Especially when Brandkommando strikes with such flat sound lines as in "Only We Can Help You" and so on. It seems that this attempt to get to know this project's better sides has failed. Perhaps I'll have to sit and listen to those releases that everyone's praising and then to try and see where's the problem at. I'd say a mediocre release that you can listen to, but that's it. Harsh Noise? Well, I don't know. I've always thought harsh is fast, rhythmical flood of noise, but what Brandkommando offer at their newest album is more towards anti music. The anti music was also up to dodecaphonists, but they in turn moved more into a direction of abstract only after they had reached the mastery in so called „ordinary” music. The album looks well at the first sight. Everything is nicely packed in brown paper and wrapped with red streamer. The photos have military atmosphere suggesting ubiquitous violence and assault on the innocent. As far as the cover is concerned the gents did really fine. The titles are rather encouraging, however as far as the music is concerned they do not reach anything original or new. For instance „O Pokój i Socjalizm”, „Kill”, „Pain”, „Death” and the like. I'd expected a brutal diary of merciless times, those closest to us I think. And what I was given was grotesque dirty powers that remind me of People's Republic of Poland broadcasts. The general connotation is with dullness, bitterness and the tension connected with those times. However, such a deep combination of the artwork and the inspiration didn't give me satisfaction. The album keeps rising tension, but it doesn't bring any release. You constantly feel a kind of neurosis which cumulates but causes no reaction, no catharsis and no solution. ‘’Triumph’’ with Death Culture sounds interesting, though not innovative: it starts with a bit distorted classic Carmina Burana and passes to apathetic hum that resembles deep breaths. It's a piece for uncritical fans of noise ( with a great deal of dark ambient). (*NOTE = this review was written HERE ).
