  DANIEL MENCHE + ZBIGNIEW KARKOWSKI
"Unleash"
Year:    2008
Country:    US , Poland
Label:    Alien8
Format:    CD
Tracks:    6
Time:    45 min.
Genre:    electronic
Style:         Noise

Describing this debut collaboration between ZBIGNIEW KARKOWSKI and DANIEL MENCHE as heavy would be a serious understatement; gruelingly brutal would be much more fitting. "Unleash" is part one of a pair of releases based around the same recording sessions. DANIEL MENCHE independently mixed the recorded work the duo recorded together in Portland, Oregon. While this marks the third outing for DANIEL MENCHE, the master of physical noise from Portland, Oregon on Alien8 Recordings, we feel very fortunate to finally have an offering from the Polish-born composer ZBIGNIEW KARKOWSKI, who has been residing in Tokyo, Japan since 1994. Definitively two masters together can to create a true Opus, in this case nothing to do with other musical styles but noise, noise and noise. High quality and highly recommended.

"Flaming tongues"

Format:    CD
Tracks:    5
Time:    60 min.
Genre:    electronic

The first DANIEL MENCHE album I ever tracked down was Glass Forest and there is something in the percussion laced drone that really worked for me and made me a bit of a fan. Flaming Tongues is one of two Menche back catalogue records I really wanted to hear. It is essentially processed percussion but the sound textures he creates are stunning. These pieces are very carefully thought out. Whether it is a death march that becomes a bouncy free for all or the juicy beats that sound almost like a jaw harp, it is one of the best noise/drone records I’ve heard and certainly one of the  best Menche records I own. I think it’s great that Menche is back producing records and there is a few new releases out there that you may need to track down www.deanielmenche.blogspot.com. Just don’t forget to pick up Flaming Tongues while you’re at it (*NOTE = this review was written by HERE ).

Format:    CD + Box
Tracks:   7
Time:   67 min.
Genre:    electronic

One of my favorites in Noise from the first moment I discovered the noise music scene as such, and it was artists Daniel Menche . I believe in its ( long or short ) drives fosters a very attractive balance between aggressive Noise and soft Ambient / Drone . Overall I think it can be classified more as a Noise project that not enough : Ambient. But undoubtedly the interest always shows Menche by soft , environmental and spatial sounds almost . This is a pretty old disk that has been edited and re -released with different covers with different designs and different colors (including black and white). But even spending 20 years since its inception it is important to talk about it. Review it and highlight it as an important work that does not lose value over time . Rather the opposite happens , time gives reason to Daniel Menche that this is one of his most inspired and better composite discs . Not the best , since the list of disks Menche is very long and there is much valuable material. But if we dared to say it's one of the best. Enjoy it .

Label:    Duebel rec.
Format:    CD

Time:    16 min.

Daniel Menche is an abstract sound musician and composer located in Portland, Oregon (. Active since 1989. This album comes in a clear plastic outer sleeve with a cardboard sleeve and the two 7" records come in clear plastic bags and are wrapped in multi folded tissue paper. It was released by "Duebel Records" which is a sub-label of the famous german electronic label "Ant-Zen". This is not the typical DANIEL MENCHE album which noise has an strong presence but a work more ambient / drone oriented, very calm, very quiet with some field recordings. Is a disc quite unknown and sadly very short, but is inspired, serious and good. Recommended to listen to a bit.

Tracks:    2
Time:    40 min.

Packaged in a handmade wooden frame housed between two metal sheets held together with a tape. Includes a small folded cardboard insert. Recorded at La Luna, 2-22-1994, Portland, Oregon. "I was opening for this poet "Copernicus" at this huge and practically empty concert hall. The natural room reverb made the massive sound enormous, and to my memory this was the loudest show I've ever performed. So loud, I think even I got a little scared"
