MASTIC SCUM is an Austrian grindcore band founded in 1992. The band consists of founding members Harry (guitar), Man (drums) and Maggo (vocals, since 2008) and Much (bass, since 2005). They used to write lyrics about social issues, politics, feelings, etc. something like “mincecore”, but has different musical sources from thrash metal to crust, punk, etc. They released the following three albums: Zero (1999), Scar (2002), Mind (2005). They has also released splits with Agathocles, Rotten Sound, Haemorrhage, C.S.S.O., Senseless, Blockheads, Mixomatosis, Malignant Tumour and Fleshless. I discovered this band and also this album, not in the 90s but few months ago, for casuality in bandcamp. Now quickly I realized MASTIC SCUM were band quite unknown in the underground scene. The band used to write and sing about mincore themes (politics, society, animal liberation, etc.) but strictly musical they are not just a grindcore band, but a band with many different musical sources, from thrash metal to hardcore, metal... even to industrial and noise sounds in its newest albums. After one demo tape, three ep's and six splits with bands such as: Agathocles, Rotten Sound, Haemorrhage, C.S.S.O., Senseless, Blockheads, Mixomatosis, Malignant Tumour and Fleshless, MASTIC SCUM decided to enter a good (and probably expensive) studio and to record this album totally professional with a very good technical level and quality sound. The seventeen tracks are not always grindcore but here there is a lot of hardcore and thrash metal influences, maybe too much in some tracks. "LOW" and "Exhume" are two very original tracks of electronic noise, ambient and industrial music which give to the album an special and original touch.
