"escape mask"
Year:  2017
Country:  Japan
Label:  Cold Spring
Format:  CD , LP
Tracks:  4
Time:  45min.
Genre:  electronic, acoustic
Style:        Noise         Lo-Fi

The newest Merzbow release is in fact one of his oldest recordings, so the master of this album was made and recorded in 1983. In some releases appeared five tracks in other four tracks (because the first ones are together), but the album is the same and keep the same bizarre mix which made Merzbow with instruments such as: guitar, violin, drum machine (rhythm Box), tapes manipulation, noises and many other effects. The release was issued in 1983 through label "ZSF" and in 2017 through "Other Voices" and "Cold Spring" (in the distribution work). Is frankly weird and lo-fi, but at the same time interessant, meditative... even fun.

Format:   CD
Edition:   500 copies
Tracks:   3
Time:   74 min.
Genre:   electronic
Style:                 Noise

It is very strange and hard to believe but this album "Takahe Collage" was the first Merzbow album I heard in my life. Listen from start to finish, read some reviews on the disc, see on wikipedia that had information about Merzbow, etc.. Although undoubtedly his almost unique "King of Noise" position since 1979, I personally met and heard other noise musicians Masami Akita before. And frankly I've never heard the whole disk at once, 70 minutes without rest or stop pure and harsh noise aka "Japanoise". But occasionally I like to listen to fragments of 20 or 25 minutes and perceive this feeling of fireworks and enthusiasm, optimism and positivity that follows Merzbow recordings of the past 10 years. Just look at the colorful covers or reasons related to the nature (animals or plants), I am prompted to "open" the disc and listen. It is a curious fact that both Akita likes birds ... such a fragile animal. Many covers and art-works of recent years are also works by Masami Akita himself. Both great job.

Masami Akita (秋田 昌美 born December 19, 1956), better known by his stage name MERZBOW (メルツバウ), is a Japanese noise musician. Since 1979, has released over 400 recordings. The name "Merzbow" comes from German artist Kurt Schwitters' artwork, "Merzbau". This was chosen to reflect Akita's dadaism influence and junk art aesthetic. In addition to this Akita has cited a wide range of influences from progressive rock, free jazz, modern classical and musique concrète to Japanese art. More recentl, he has been inspired by animals, animal rights, pacifism and environmentalism.

As well as being a prolific musician, he has been a writer and editor for several books and magazines in Japan, and has written 17 books of his own. He has written about a variety of subjects, mostly about Art, avant-garde and post-modern culture. His more renowned works have been on the topics of BDSM and fetish culture. Other art forms Akita has been interested in include painting, photography, filmmaking and Butoh dance.

In 2000 "Extreme Records" released the 50-CD box set known as the "Merzbox". Akita's work has been the subject of several remix albums and at least one tribute album. This, among other achievements, has helped MERZBOW to be regarded by some as the "most important artist in noise" ever.

Merzbow I've sampled before, here and there, but this is the first album to ever really grab me, shake me, throw me down, forcefully penetrate me, impregnate me, abort the baby, eat the Remains, and force me to pay attention to the heavenly light That is "Merzbow". Imagine Mainliner's Mellow Out, Amon Düül, and skipping all Eye, hand in hand, through a beautiful park, raping and pillaging as seen fit. This album is the best no-wave krautrock orgasm I've heard. Ever. Get it and prepare to explode. This is a cassette rip, and I'm fairly sure it's never been re-released on anything else. I'm also going to upload one of his 2008 releases, Anicca, in the coming days. Enjoy!

"The late 80s/early 90s saw an influential experimental noise movement emerges from Japan, With artists: such as Hanatarash, Masonna, Violent Onsen Geisha, and Especially, Merzbow, Causing quite a stir. Besides being the leader of the movement, Akita Also Quickly turned out to be one of The most prolific recording artists in music, as it is almost impossible to stay on top of all his releases. His Total number of recordings (both solo and With Others) easily passes 300, With Some guessing the number Totalling over 500. "- NME.com
