Dreams are a series of images that spontaneously occur within the mind during certain stages of sleep. Though not definitively understood, dreams are said to have a number of meanings and reasons. Some speculate that our dreams are a bridge to our unconscious mind and all that it desires and fears, while others believe that the soul leaves the body during dreams to travel within the dream realm and visit the people and places it sees there. Perhaps the most intriguing thought is that the realm of dreams is the only authentic reality and what we consider to be waking life/reality is the actual dream. At this point in the game, Sergi Salda need an urgence introduction, to everybody knows who is this unknown musician with such high quality. Sergi Salda was born in Barcelona, Catalonia (Spain) some years ago and started to know, make and produce different kind of music from punk, folk, metal or rock, to electronic, experimental or even pure and saturated harsh noise. After many names, bands and projects (some of them still active like Axiom of choice, Pit Roig or Colliding Paths), he decided to move to Larvik, an small village in Norway in 2006. The project was founded under another name, but shortly after the first release it was renamed as AWSER DERF. Each recording has a slightly different musical orientation (glitch / jazz / noise / drone / ambient…), but they all have a common feeling; exploring new sonic landscapes through sarcasm and darkness, but influenced also by the brightness and greatness of nature. He run also an independentent net-label named “Abdicate Cell Records”. AWSER DERF is currently based and playing in Oslo. Thematic elements aside, what really defines the album is the passion and craftsmanship that a lone human being was willing to and capable of pouring into its creation. Though the music has the essence of ambient, drone or space, it doesn’t stagnate in that sometimes inflexible and idle genre, and is a serious raising-of-the-bar that will be hard to top in the genre. Other AWSER DERF albums aside, this album alone will surely keep both new and longtime listeners occupied and satisfied for a long time as they explore its many worlds and crevices. If the project must come to an end, and Sergi Salda has said that it is truly the end for AWSER DERF, then a more fitting musical epitaph probably doesn’t exist. Definitively a very good album full of changes, sounds, noises and landscapes, but always in the field of experimental music.
