Fredrik Nilsson's METEK is back with a long, dense slab of low, creeping ambient noise. Released on german record label "Attenuation Circuit" imprint, "Psychedelic noise" is a slow burner built to leave you feeling cold and ruined. Capping off 2015, this one should prepare you for the tough winter ahead. METEK's latest is an experiment in allowing the music to build, move, and decay at its own pace. Some songs work better than others, but that's to be assumed with every album. For the most part, "Psychedelic noise" puts forth interesting, cold ambient and soft noise that will please the wintertime soul. Fortunately, there are some bits that quite work, and some tired bits that are further highlighted by the overlong run time. All in all, though, it's another good METEK release.

Fredrik Nilsson is the musician, DJ and producer who is behind the noise project METEK since 1990 from Malmö (Sweden). But this is not only noise which Fredik create, but also other musical styles such as: ambient, drone, glitch, electronic, experimental, etc. and has published more than fourty albums and many splits next to other bands or projects such as: NRYY, Soma, RedSK, Earth Incubator, Fascist Razorback, Razxca, Zreen Toyz, Lackthrow, Ego Death, Jan-M. Iversen, Black Madonna, Doki Doki... and many more. Apart, he has also some b-side short-lived projects like Incesthora, Elinor, 0301 or Gas, in addition to continuing with his task as a Deejay. Another good qualities he have as a person (especially for his audience) is that 80% of his discography is exposed free download to everybody, without putting almost never excessive prices or profits, if not the opposite. So more music by METEK, whose work becomes more and more interesting. He works this time with the lowest means: some ambient landscapes, drones, static electronics, reel-to-reel recorders, modular synth and electro-magnetic sensors. His latest work, consisting of one huge track of almost fourty-five minutes where you can to listen to different intensity levels, sounds, noises and which is not static at all. METEK's work is loud and no doubt could easily be classified as "noise", but the truth is that this is hardly "noise" in the classical sense of the word. It uses elements from the world of noise, but due to the fact that nothing lasts very long plus the fact that this is collated together in the form of a composition, makes this perhaps more an ambient / drone release, and rather not mindless long, numbing walls of noise. Here something is though out, planned and constructed, using the raw building blocks of noise music. METEK's work is far from pleasant, as it more often sounds like walking in a contaminated waste dump with leaking barrels of radio active material, and nearly defunct machinery which was original there to destroy the waste. METEK's music is a soundtrack to a dystopian world, or perhaps simply beautiful for those who love their music to have an element of destruction. Don not expect the usual METEK album, near to classic and agressive harsh noise, but to something different, more calm and quiet and most original in his musical career. METEK (Fredrik Nilsson) run also an small label called "Completly Gone Recordings" with a lot of net releases avaible in Bandcamp and other on CD format avaible on discogs. About this album here simply... enjoy it.
